7 UI/UX Mistakes That Are Costing You Customers

After redesigning over 50 client applications, we've identified seven UI/UX mistakes that appear in nearly every project we inherit. Each one is silently costing businesses customers and revenue.
1. Overloaded navigation. If your menu has more than 7 items, users experience decision paralysis. Consolidate, use dropdowns, or implement a search-first navigation pattern.
2. No visual hierarchy. When everything is bold, nothing is. Use size, color, and spacing to guide the eye to what matters most — your CTA, your value proposition, your pricing.
3. Slow perceived performance. Users don't care about actual load times — they care about perceived speed. Skeleton screens, optimistic UI updates, and progressive loading make a 3-second load feel instant.
4. Forms that punish users. Every unnecessary field is a dropout point. Ask only what you need, use smart defaults, and validate inline — not after submission.
5. Ignoring mobile-first. Over 60% of web traffic is mobile. If you're designing for desktop and 'adapting' for mobile, you're designing backwards.
6. Inconsistent spacing. Irregular padding and margins make interfaces feel amateur. Establish a spacing scale (4px, 8px, 16px, 24px, 32px) and stick to it religiously.
7. No feedback on actions. Every button click, form submission, and state change should have visible feedback. Users should never wonder 'did that work?'
